Where do we go from here?  That is a very good question, one which few have the answer too, therefore, I will not belabor the subject.

To begin with, I would like to share a poem, that the Secretary of a former Special Forces Association Chapter (59) which I was a member of, sent to me.  It is penned by one of the Chapter Members.

The Old Men

The old men struggled to their feet

The anthem at the end of its first stanza

Leaning on each other as in years gone by

Caps off, held gently over their hearts

Hair thin and wispy, moving with the breeze

Bodies erect, they stand in silent reverence

Their caps bear names from long ago

Places where history was made

Normandie, Bastogne, Corregidor, Okinawa

They remember another time, another place

They gave their blood, their sweat, and their youth

Friends gave the last full measure

Asking not for praise, or thanks

Only that you honor their friends,

Remember why, and never forget

by Harmon Snipes

I do not know Harmon, but the ode sure does ring a big bell.  One which might be the beginning of Where do we go from here?  I am guilty of being one of these Old Men, however, my span of service spreads from Korea to Vietnam, along with another unknown country, adjacent to Vietnam.

Let us start by remembering what the men of all the wars this country has participated in fought and died for.  Freedom of religion, choice, press, and voicing one's opinion.  Yes, Opinion, out in the open, without fear of reprisal from any form of government.  We all share that freedom, and sometimes it gets one in "hot water" just by the tone of voice, enunciation of certain words, or gestures.

If we go forward to the situation in the world, we could take a look at the situation in England, which is very bad.  Personally, I can think of far too many ways that the Terrorist are screwing up.  their hatred for those of us with the above listed freedoms, that their military planning really stinks, to put it bluntly.............BUT, where do we go from here?  We need to place security devices, sensors, and detectors at the entrance of all Airports, Railroad and Bus Terminals.  Screwy, maybe, but there is not one point of inspection prior to checking the baggage and finally, going through the security checkpoint to get on the aircraft.  Why, one ask, for the simple reason, if you want to destroy the means of transportation, you do not take out the aircraft, already in the air.  Take out the means of transportation, no terminal to dispatch the aircraft, railway depot, bus terminal, no transportation.  These idiots are all self destructive, so what is to prevent hundreds, or even thousands of them to walk into one major airport, and destroy it from within, killing thousands of travelers, disrupting the entire means of communications/transportation?

This goes far back to my old days, when I was a young man.  If you want to defeat the enemy, think like he does.  I used the same thought in my days as a Locksmith/Security Consultant...If you want to defeat the thief, think like he does.................It goes on and on.............so, where do we go from here?

You nailed it. You got to think like the enemy to beat them. Cops use low level dealers like minnows time after time to catch the big fish. The one thing the enemy is very adept at is using our MSM. They know the USA is a very inpatient bunch of folks unable to fight a protracted war. Think about the 122mm rockets that we laughed at while we saw 82mm and 120 mm mortars knock out targets with precision. We have seem to have forgotten the principles of offense and defense. Frankly, what worries me is statistics and BS on URR's. Add senior officers with poly sci grad degrees, and; years away from troops. I wonder how the pampered can catch a crook much less a bad guy? When any mission is predicated on miminum loss of life, I wonder who forgot about mass and surprise. It takes nasty men to kill nasty fanatics. Riding around cities is not my idea of combat patrols.
