Feeling Hopeful
This weekend I was visiting friends and family in the Jacksonville, FL area. I grew up in Jacksonville. I spent plenty of time in the down town area. Mainly because my God father own businesses in the area. Most of this are was occupied by the poor people of the city. They may have had business in the area which provided a means of support for them and their families.
Now when you drive through the are it's cleaned up and very few people are on the streets. However, the economics of the area has left and new development is in place. Now I'm not sure of the situation but looking at the are i would say that these new developments pay a lot more in taxes that the older ones that were in place. However, where are the people benefiting from the new development economically. Oh yeah, in more money for subsidies. Now let me ask you a question, Which one is more of burden to the system? People that receive from the government or those that give to the government." I would say that those that are giving are less or a burden for many reasons. We will not get into all of those reasons in this blog.
The question remains, "If the inhabitants of this area had taken it upon them selves to Redevelop this are they would have maintained some power and control over the area. But by allowing an outside source to come in an redevelop the area that partnered with the city, they forwent all power and control. In this blog I will set out to provide tools and insight into how communities can maintain control and power or there futures and destinies economically.
