The Other Shoe

The family and friends of Nick Berg have set up a memorial website in his honor. I have sent them my condolences. You can do the same here.

This is the man who murdered Nick Berg. He is both the leader of the terrorist resistance in Iraq and the man who physically, with knife in hand, personally murdered Nick.

His real name is unknown, but his nom de terror is Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi.

 One of the more active terrorist networks in recent years has been that of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. At least 116 terrorist operatives from Zarqawi’s global network have been arrested, including members in France, Italy, Spain, Britain, Germany, Turkey, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. For example:

Turkey: Two Palestinians and a Jordanian who entered Turkey illegally from Iran on their way to conduct bombing attacks in Israel were intercepted and arrested by Turkish police on February 15, 2002. They were dispatched to Turkey by Zarqawi from Iran.

Germany: Although the al-Tawhid terrorist cell apprehended in Germany in April 2002 has been tied to the recently arrested Abu Qatada in Britain, its activities were controlled by Zarqawi. According to German prosecutors, the group facilitated the escape of terrorist fugitives from Afghanistan and planned to attack US or Israeli interests in Germany.

Jordan: Zarqawi planned and facilitated the October 2002 assassination of US Agency for International Development official Lawrence Foley in Amman. Jordanian PM Abu Ragheb Ali announced that the suspects arrested in December in connection with the attack received funding and instructions from Zarqawi and had intended to conduct further attacks against "foreign embassies, Jordanian officials, some diplomatic personnel, especially Americans and Israelis." Moreover, Powell revealed that after the murder, an associate of the assassin "left Jordan to go toIraq to obtain weapons and explosives for further operations." In addition, a key Zarqawi deputy called Foley’s assassins on a satellite phone to congratulate them while he was driving out of Iraq toward Turkey, a mistake that led to his capture and confirmation that an al-Qaeda cell was operating out of Iraq.

Poison plots: Powell also disclosed that Abuwatia, a detainee who graduated from Zarqawi’s terrorist camp in Afghanistan, admitted to dispatching at least nine North African extremists to Europe to conduct poison and explosive attacks.

This man is probably still in Iraq. United States and Coalition forces need to find him and take him out of the equation pronto. His group was responsible for the Madrid train bombing last month, and also for many more crimes committed in Iraq in the past year. 

In January, a memo Zarqawi had written to Osama bin Laden was found on the body of a dead Al Qaeda messenger (caps in original).

4. PLAN OF ACTION:

AFTER MUCH INQUIRY AND DISCUSSION, WE HAVE NARROWED OUR ENEMY TO FOUR GROUPS:

A. AMERICANS
AS YOU KNOW, THESE ARE THE BIGGEST COWARDS THAT GOD HAS CREATED AND THE EASIEST TARGET. AND WE ASK GOD TO ALLOW US TO KILL, AND DETAIN THEM, SO THAT WE CAN EXCHANGE THEM WITH OUR ARRESTED SHAYKHS AND BROTHERS.

B. KURDS
THESE ARE A PAIN AND A THORN, AND IT IS NOT TIME YET TO DEAL WITH THEM. THEY ARE LAST ON OUR LIST, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE TRYING TO GET TO SOME OF THEIR LEADERS. GOD WILLING.

C. THE IRAQI TROOPS, POLICE, AND AGENTS
THESE ARE THE EYES, EARS, AND HAND OF THE OCCUPIER. WITH GOD'S PERMISSION, WE ARE DETERMINED TO TARGET THEM WITH FORCE IN THE NEAR FUTURE, BEFORE THEIR POWER STRENGTHENS.

D. THE SHI'A
IN OUR OPINION, THESE ARE THE KEY TO CHANGE. TARGETING AND STRIKING THEIR RELIGIOUS, POLITICAL, AND MILITARY SYMBOLS, WILL MAKE THEM SHOW THEIR RAGE AGAINST THE SUNNIS AND BEAR THEIR INNER VENGEANCE. IF WE SUCCEED IN DRAGGING THEM INTO A SECTARIAN WAR, THIS WILL AWAKEN THE SLEEPY SUNNIS WHO ARE FEARFUL OF DESTRUCTION AND DEATH AT THE HANDS OFTHESE SABEANS, I.E., THE SHI'A. DESPITE THEIR WEAKNESS, THE SUNNIS ARE STRONG-WILLED AND HONEST AND DIFFERENT FROM THE COWARD AND DECEITFUL SHI'A, WHO ONLY ATTACK THE WEAK. MOST OF THE SUNNIS ARE AWARE OF THE DANGER OF THESE PEOPLE AND THEY FEAR THEM. IF IT WERE NOT FOR THOSE DISAPPOINTING SHAYKHS, SUFIS, AND MUSLIM BROTHERS, SUNNIS WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT ATTITUDE.

In other words, murder Americans like Nick Berg, attack the Iraqi police and provisional government through acts like the assassination of Izzadine Saleem today, and foment civil war between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites. Nice.

You can read the entire Zarqawi memo here. When you compare his "plan of action" and "way of action" with the events which have unfolded in Iraq this year, it becomes clear that Zarqawi has been the animating force behind much of the trouble we've seen.

This guy needs to be found.
