The results are in! The 3rd Annual Best Of The Best Marx Figure Customizing Contest is history and our very own Frontier Secret Agent James West is a winner! Huzzah, huzzah! Judged amid a field of swell online entries as 'Best Virtual Figure', how about that?

The spoils of victory included a nice new 'The Blue & The Gray' Union solider figure from Circle X Ranch and a gilt sixthscale trophy which will assume a place of distinction in my display case, you bet.

Naturally, little Jim West was excited by all the attention. Never one to miss an opportunity for public congratulation and basking in the glare of flashbulbs, James borrowed a pair of 'Hollywood' shades from Clayton Moore and posed with his award:

The celebratory mood got, well, wild after a few draughts of 'joy juice' from the oversized trophy. Hey, Jim! I hope those are just blanks you're firing!

A mighty "Plastick Thanks!" to:

Our pal, Anthony Durso, of The ToyRoom, who crafted the custom Jim West box and instructions, yayyyy! I'm quite sure the bright and colorful box garnered a LOT of attention for the figure; a clincher for the win, fer sure!

And to Scott Stewart at Stewart's Attic, host of the contest in conjunction with JohnnyCon 2008. Here is the page of entries in every category, check it out. There's a lot of talent out there, it's great stuff!:

http://www.stewartsattic.com/Marx/specials/botb/entries.cfm

And to Circle X Ranch for the nice new figure. It's good to get things for free! Looks a lotlike Lance Armstrong outfitted for Civil War era action. Now if I can just find a Barbie bike to pose him on!

No, no, I'm kidding! That'd probably get him ridden out of town on a rail! Eee-Yow!!!

I never update this space anymore since the advent of the mighty Classic Plastick Message Board.... but here's an update in case you're still checking in here!

So, I've had a George Reeves custom head in place for more years than I care to admit and never in that span of time did I have a Super-suit to dress him out in proper TV character style. That's about to change as this week saw the first red-and-blue prototypes from the mighty Sewing Lady! Yessss!

Without further ado, here are the first images of the suit and cape. Dressed on a PM Captain Action figure, complete with vinyl emblem and prototypical yellow belt and Captain Action mask and boots.

The next version will be re-sized to fit the larger Formative figures I use for my own complete custom figures including the George head and will feature an embroidered Super emblem as well.

Additionally, I'll make a lighter blue version too. I was supplied a few color pics featuring this darker blue suit for a custom order so I went with that for this first shot.

There you have it, the first steps on the 'up, up and awayyy' to a complete custom TV Superman figure! Yipppeee!

aoljurlAdd, aoljurlAdd_2

Hey ho, gang! It's been a month of Sundays since I've updated here, favoring the swingin' Classic Plastick Message Board in place of this forum. And like every open signpost on the vast internet, that board has its share of spammers so it's become necessary to require membership to peruse those columns. It takes just a minute, maybe two, to create a member name and password so if you wanna keep up on the goings-on at the toy lab, there's no better place to do it!

For the casual observer I will try to update this space with mailing news at the very least, just so the tumbleweeds don't take over completely.

Speaking of mail: There are a few goodies making the post this week and I meant to do that today... but in my haste to beat the falling snow and the crush of workday traffic I swung off on my usual shortcut home from work today, missing the Post Office exit by a mile! Doh! So watch for mail news tomorrow if you're looking for your fair city to be named!

In other news: Our photo albums have been updated with a swell new photo-record of a fun play date with some of my local toy geek buds, looking over a great collection of vintage toys and stuff. Lotsa groovy playthings to gawk at! Check it out under "Pattoo Toy Expo" using this handy link:

That's all for now! Stay Tuned!

Okay, then, here are the latest postal destinations this week:

Redwood City and San Jose CA, Norridge IL, Boston MA and the Big Apple- or somewhere close by anyway -New York NY.

In other news: I've got another in the proposed chorus line of Wilton Batman figures on the way, yay! I must have had the Ideal figures- including Batman this same pose, with the same removeable cape, only smaller -as a wee lad but my memories of this figure are clearer. Both my Mom and Grandma were bakers of all manner of doughy products so the Wilton cake decorating catalogs were required reading for them.

For me too with all the colorful cartoony plastic figures made for posing on top of cakes, their feet cemented by ooey gooey frosting. There were wannabe Beatles, cowboys, sports figures, fishermen and there was... Catman, of course. I suppose when their license ran out and there were still hundreds of thousands of figures in the warehouse or on the boat from China they had to obfuscate the true nature of the shadowy character with the batwing cape and the bat emblazoned on his chest with a slight- very slight -change of moniker.

I'd get one every year- after last years model was lost, melted, dismembered, beheaded or otherwise destroyed by the villainous forces roaming free in the backyard -and promptly cut him free from his plastic base. He could no longer stand on his own; a small price to pay for the freedom to swing from a Batrope of white string without the encumbrance of that clunky foot stool o' plastic!
