Morgan Plays the Race Card

Joe Morgan, the man who tried to compare Ruth and beer to Bonds and 'Roids Sunday night, was on Sportscenter this morning slangin' the race card all over the place.  Of course it was the geniuses behind SC who asked him the question, so it's not like he's completely senile and brought it up on his own.

Among other gems, Morgan pulled out some real brainbusters such as, "There are some people out there who dislike Barry 'cause he's black.”  We have a name for the those people, Joe.  They're called "racists." See, how it works is, they hate anyone who is black, not just Barry.  Your average baseball fan hates Barry because he's a prick.

Morgan went on to say, "[Race] is always involved and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that… we just can’t let that influence our deepest thoughts.”  Maybe a spoke to soon about the senile thing.

But then again, maybe Joe is on to something.  Check out this video which further proves that people from Philly are stuck somewhere in the middle of the evolution process.  Apparently, it is just after Bonds hit his 450 foot blast.  Enjoy the stupidity.

Your a moron ! I'm a 41 year old philly guy and I've seen a lot of crazy stuff in my life and Bonds 450' homer doesn't compare to Ryan Howards nearly 500' homer. We love Howard , so that brings two things in to view , it kills the race card and Bonds has brought all of this stuff on himself !

I agree to a point with Joe's take on Bonds, the race card, etc I honestly believe that unless you are black you cannot say that race is not an issue. As a white man, I can't understand the deepest thoughts of the average black man. With that said, I can't understand the deepest thoughts of a white man. We are all individuals with our lifes formulated ideas and thoughts of everything. I'd prefer to believe in the good and evil concept of humanity. Barry comes off as aloof and less than genuine in his comments. I distrust him, as I also distrust McGuire, Palmeiro, Sosa and Canseco. Ithink all of them have used steroids and all should have thier statistics removed from the books. It's just my discernment on the issue. However skin color or ethnic heritage should not influence anyone's opinion. Both whites and blacks in America have an extremely long way to go before we get to the point of mutual acceptance in our deepest thoughts.

Who really gives a rats ass about Barry Bonds? The current popular notion that Bonds has the same impact on the game as Ruth did in his day, and for several generations afterward, is preposterous at best. Ruth drinking beer, whiskey and eating hot dogs during a game is not even a reasonable comparison to taking illegal performance enhancement drugs. Now maybe the activities of Kansas City Royal George Brett could be comparable to Ruths indiscretions. Bonds is in more realtion to Sosa's bat corking if you ask me. The race card being touted as the reason for Bonds unpopularity among baseball fans by Joe Morgan only lowers the opinion I usually have for his commentary on baseball. What it really is is just a tired old crutch that has been used to death to justify poor behavior and lack of control or ethics by so many Black celebrities in sports and entertainment. I here that even Willie Mayes has said he would have taken steroids if they had been available in his day. What can you say about that? Its pitiful to hear him say it in my view. Not all blacks support this view or tolent behavioir towards cheating and or cheaters. Frank Robinson fortunately has it right, erase their records if its proven that they cheated. This goes for McGuire, Sosa, Palmera, Conseco and anyone else with whom it applies. Is that being a racist? I don't think so. Even Bill Cosby has come under verbal assult and condemnation for speaking this obvious truth.

Bonds brings it upon himself, he is just plain unlikeable. I wouldn't like him if he was my mailman, or white. I love the game and have a great respect for Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and Jackie Robinson to name just a few. The circle you describe is self fulfilling because as long as people are complaining that they are owed because of their race, while other races zoom past them. they will be perceived as invalid. Live in New york and listen to Al Sharpton blame everything from asphalt to dominos being black because of white folks. By the way, the home run record is held by a black man.
Put Bonds and Ruth in any other profession or situation and Ruth is still the guy you would rather have a beer with.

I agree completely with the comments by Joe Morgan.  White folks in America always try to deny that racism plays a part in their motives and their actions.
If this was Mark McGwire close to breaking Bath Ruth's record, even with the accusations of steroids ,white folk would be glamorizing McGwire.
Unfortunately race matters in America, and until white America shows a consistent pattern of not being racist, black folks will always see racism as a motivating factor.
Look at Steve Nash for example, receiving the MVP for the second consecutive year.  White sportwriters and sportcasters whenever given the opportunity to put a white player at the forefront ,ignore the stellar performance of blacks that perform like Nash all the time.
So please stop screaming everytime black folks espouse racism as the focal point of your actions.
