It's time once again for the greatest of all the sporting events: The National Spelling Bee. Yes, the competition between these career virgins that has brought us such hits as "The Napoleon Dynamite Impersonater" and "The Fainting Indian Kid" starts on May 31.
The final rounds of the Bee will be shown on primetime TV for the first time ever this year. ESPN will show the competition live starting next Thursday. Who wants to bet that it will triple the NHL playoff ratings?

I thought that the National Spelling Bee was pretty geeky...until I flew Air Canada last year and saw a documentary about it -- can't remember the name. I must admit it was absorbing stuff. I've changed my opinion.

This is the super bowl of nerds and, I must admit, my favorite sporting event of the whole year. Wow -- I like sports.
