The 'Fonz Is on Fire!

I don't mean to brag (okay, maybe I do), but back in December when everyone was bashing Nationals GM Jim Bowden for the Wilkerson-for-Soriano trade, it was me who said that it was a great move.  Turns out I was dead on, but then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Soriano has 23 bombs, and is one of the key reasons why the Nationals have turned their season around.  They are 14-6 in their last 20 games and have won five of their last six series.  So much for that whole idea that Soriano was only good in Texas because of it's "hitter's ballpark."  The same park, I might add, that has Wilkerson batting .249 with 12 HRs. Soriano is killing Wilkerson in every single categoy (including OBP and OPS)... except strikeouts; that's one stat that Brad has more of.

Having said all that, it is clear that the Nats do not have the resources to resign Soriano after this season, especially if he goes on to hit 50 HRs and bat over .300.  I would say the Yankees could use him right about now with $23 million worth of outfielders on the bench.  But, as usual, they have no one to offer Washington.

well done this past weekend nats. i can't wait to read your blogger on how the Washington Nationals actually beats the beloved (especially by you mottram) Yankees. FANTASTIC!!!!

oh, and on a side note, the orioles beat my mets in their most recent three game series. However, I've got nothing against the O's. Is Cal Ripken still on the team, I didn't see him play in any of the games this weekend?

key reason that they're are turning their season around is the fact that they are playing the bottom-of-the-barrel caliber teams in the NL.

please, god... don't let the newfound success sucker our new owners into making some ill-advised trade in order to "make a run" at the playoffs this year.

time to sell high before the trade deadline and work on building the farm system for the future.
