Brewer Hates Puffy Balls
Brewers' third baseman Jeff Cirillo has cracked the case. He has figured out why offense is finally down in Coors Field: the balls are soggy. Cirillo apparently compared some balls that he brought from Milwaukee to those used in Colorado and found the ladder to be "oblong" and "heavy."
Of course the article brings up a painfully obvious point: the ball Cirillo brought from Milwaukee would've dried out and become firmer in the thin Denver air, whereas the balls that were already in Colorado had just been pulled out of a humidor.
Cirillo's conspiracy theory went on to suggest that if the Rockies get down by a lot of runs, they could be tempted to break out non-humidor balls, which are firmer, dryer, etc., thus easier to hit a lot further.
Jeff's manager, Ned Yost, called the idea "nuts," and went on to say, "I don't care if they are dry or wet"... which, if taken out of context, could be obscene.
And for those counting, I used the word "balls" six times in this post. That's a record that I don't think I wanted.
