Jason Campbell's Time Has Come
If Mark Brunell was a horse, sometime this afternoon would be an opportune time to take him out back and shoot him. He's a broken down, worthless shadow of what he once was, and by "once" I mean just one short year ago. I've supported the man they call Mark Brutal through many of his struggles since coming to the 'Skins, but I can support him no more. It is time to begin the Jason Campbell era in D.C.
If I hear one more word about the 'Skins pathetic offense being a result of their inability to grasp Saunders' system I might just vomit on myself... again (I think last night caused about four of those reactions). Brunell is physically unable to throw the ball with any sort of strength and accuracy beyond ten yards.
My point here isn't to bash Brunell. As I said, I've supported him when many others have called for Ramsey or Campbell to take over, but it is clear that his time is up. Age has caught up with the man. Maybe Campbell isn't the answer, but he is the 'Skins only option. Besides, it can't get any worse. I'd rather have Campbell in there taking shots down field and throwing a few picks, then cringe as Brunell gingerly retreats 15 steps then throws the ball away on third down, or dumps it off for a two-yard pickup.
I know some people in the D.C. area (and beyond) predicted big things for the 'Skins this season. I'm eternally pessimistic -- and realistic, I might add -- about my team and predicted 8-8 for them this season. As long as Brunell remains the signal caller, I'd say those eight wins are becoming more and more optimistic.
Campbell is D.C.'s QB of the future, and the future is now... as in this week. The 'Skins play at Houston this Sunday, which is the best possible time to get Campbell in for his first start.
