The Worst Owner in MLB
Peter Angelos. It's one of those names like Derek Jeter, Michael Irvin or Paula Abdul: it just fills me with hate. As a lifelong Orioles fan, it was ingrained in my head early and often that he sucks. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. He is the reason why I was so happy to welcome the Nationals to D.C., and also the reason why I can't watch them on T.V. He's a horrible human being who should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell.
Is that evil Vigo from Ghostbusters II or Angelos?
So it should've been no surprise when I opened my email this morning and found an article from the today's Washington Post about Angelos' interest in drafting Jeffrey Maier (another name that fuels my hate). Yes, that Maier. The little D-Bag who ripped out the hearts of O's fans everywhere in the Bronx back in '96. Angelos said:
"I wouldn't be at all opposed to [drafting Maier]. In fact, I'd say it's a very interesting development. Sure, we'd take him. In fact, I like the idea more and more, the more I think about it."
Wait, let me get this throw up out of my mouth ... okay, I'm better. What the F is going on here? Did he really just say, "Sure, we'd take him"? Kill me now.
The article is fantastic, however, and chocked full of great quotes. There is ex-O's manager Davey Johnson claiming that Maier's catch got him fired and Scott Erickson, who was the starter that night, saying he hopes Maier makes the pros "just so I can drill him -- I'd like to get one shot at him." Erickson pitches for the Yankees now, which makes that quote all the more interesting.

I agree that Angelos has taken away the title of 'worst owner in MLB' from King George. It's sad too cause the O's used to be a good team. I am a Yankee fan, born in the Bronx, but living in Maryland for over 30 years now. I like to go to Camden Yards when the Yanks are in town. Sad for the O's that of the 45,000 people in the stands, about half are Yankee fans. But the issue I have here is your hatred of poor Jeffrey Maier. That kid did what any other kid would have done. He tried to catch a baseball in a stadium. Unfortunately, he happened to reach over the stands. The real blame belongs with the umpire in this case. Nobody seems to remember his name. He is the one who deserves your wrath. He made the incorrect call. If you were sitting where Maier was sitting, and you had brought your glove to the game as he did, you would have done exactly the same thing. Everyone would have done the same thing. It's a human instinct. He was just a little kid at the time. It's not his fault. Yeah, what he did was wrong, but in the heat of the moment, every kid would have done it. The umpire is the one who screwed your beloved O's... not Jeffrey Maier.

Gee, aren't you a special person! Seek professional help! Wishing the death of people you don't like is a serious character flaw. It's a game! Place your hatred in a place where it can be better served...like staring at your mirror!
