Unblocking, Blocking and Other Tools

Ryan

I came across the following post in message boards and thought it might be useful for members who have said they have accidentally blocked a buddy.

Tmeanas asks: "How do I get one of my buddies unblocked?"

Jadelce1119 answers: "Go to Setup on your Buddy List. Click IM Settings at the very bottom; click Privacy and Security. On 'Choose your Privacy settings,' go down the list until you come to 'Block only these users.' Click on that, and if you see your buddy's screen name in there, highlight the name, click Remove, then Save. Hope that helps."

If you are an AIM user, the above solution won’t work for you. Instead, you will want to follow these directions instead.

You can manage your online experience with filtering tools in many of AOL’s products. Here are a few of my favorites:

Message Boards
To make your online experience more enjoyable, consider using the "ignore" feature available to all members (both AOL and AIM). Using it allows you to enjoy the message boards without having to see posts which you do not want to see.

Learn more about how to use the "ignore" feature.

E-Mail
AOL Members
▪ If you receive unsolicited e-mails from another member and you wish to stop receiving them, you may block incoming mails from him/her by clicking the "Report Spam" button on the right side of the e-mail. Click here for more information.

AIM Members
▪ If you receive unsolicited e-mails from another member and you wish to stop receiving them, you may block his/her e-mails by checking the box at left of the message in your mail in-box screen, and clicking the "Report Spam" link at the top of the page. For additional information on this subject, click here.

Chats (Applies Only to AOL Members)
Chat rooms are a great way to meet members with similar interests and make new friends. There may be an occasion, however, when one of the members in the chat room isn’t acting so friendly. If you believe the individual is in violation of the Terms of Service (TOS), you may report his or her behavior by utilizing the "Notify AOL" button found on all chat rooms and message boards. Click here for more information on Chat filtering.

Check out the Chat: Beyond Help article. You may find it useful for getting the most out of Chat.
