Message Board Essentials: Creative Signatures

Joe

Have you wondered how some other people have colorful statements or quotes at the bottom of their messages? Those are called “signatures.” Today, I will explain how it’s done and show you how you can customize your Message Board signature.  A “signature” is a place to put your statements, much like your car can have bumper stickers to show support for certain organizations.

First, access your signature any time by clicking on the Settings link located at the top of the boards.

Then click the Signature tab on the left side. From here you can fill in whatever you want. A place to start is your screen name or nickname you want to be called and then add a quote if you like.  You can change the fonts and add your favorite colors to it also. When you are finished, click "Save" and you are done! Your future posts will have your new signature.

A step further – if you want to add fancy symbols to dress up your signature, you might want to try using the Microsoft Character Map. To access it t click Start, then Run and type "charmap" without the quotes. Press Enter; now see a listing of all the characters and symbols available. Find the one you want to add, double-click it, then copy it, and paste it into the signature. For reference, Microsoft has documentation on this feature.

What do you like to have in your signatures? Share your ideas in the comments so others have a starting point for ideas.
