AOL Message Board Search Issue Resolved (Again)

Hi, folks. If you recall from earlier this week, I mentioned that you might experience some difficulty with the AOL Message Boards Search feature. After analysis of the issue, it's been fixed and I'll explain some of the geeky bits about it.

Jay, one of our database guys who supports the back end of Message Boards and other Community products, explained the problem to me. Essentially, the indexing process was designed to self-manage its crawling of the content, but it had a few hiccups lately due to the immense size of the database and the resources necessary to index. At any rate, the indexer was bounced and it re-indexed the boards again.

The bottom line: If you use the Search feature on our boards, you will notice more results now. Yay.

The work is not over yet, as the board team still has to keep an eye on the indexer and make sure it behaves -- and that is kind of like watching paint dry. They are looking into an improved (faster) method to search the boards, so it's a win-win for everyone.
