    SCMA/YPS

 House of Delegates Breakfast Meeting

Friday, April 28, 2006

          Marriott Beach & Golf Resort

Hilton Head Island, SC

  I.            Welcome and Introductions

Dr. Gerald Congdon called the Young Physicians Section (YPS) House of Delegates breakfast meeting to order at approximately 7:00 a.m. A copy of the credentials list is attached. Everyone introduced themselves and Dr. Congdon thanked Brian Morris and Adam Phelps for their financial support of our meeting.

II.            Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the April 21, 2005 House of Delegates meeting were approved as distributed.

III.       Report from the SCMA Board of Trustees

Dr. Root gave a brief update on the activities of the SCMA. A written report is included in the meeting materials. Dr. Root serves as chair of an SCMA Board of Trustees task force whose goal is to find ways to get more academic colleagues involved in the SCMA. This year, she has put together the First Annual Resident and Medical Student Poster Presentation that will take place on Saturday morning. She encouraged everyone to please stop by the Indigo Room and see the research our residents and students are presenting. A cash award will be given to the winner.

Dr. Root’s term on the SCMA Board of Trustees as well as the Interspecialty Council ends next year and she asked those interested to think about running for the seat.

IV.            SCMA-YPS Delegate Report

Dr. Congdon reported that he attended the AMA/YPS meeting last June and it was great. Delegates received the resolutions about a month prior to the meeting so they were familiar with the issues being presented. The group approached each resolution being presented and gave a “yea” or “nay” vote. In November, he attended the Interim Meeting in Dallas which also ran very smoothly. His report is on the website.

Dr. Congdon encouraged everyone to check it out his website to read more details about the meetings. The website can be found at http://journal.aol.com/congdoc/SCMAYPS. This site is also linked to the SCMA’s website. Since he had 500 hits to the AOL site he is going to go to GoDaddy.com and to scmayps.com have our own website and he will be the webmaster. He will ask the SCMA for funding for the website.

The floor was then open for nomination of officers for the 2006-07 year.  New officers are as follows:

There is a resolution from Greenville County having to do with oversight of medical clinics inside retail establishments. Also from Greenville is a resolution revisiting the tobacco tax, which should be supported.
