John is not the only one who has had health problems.  I had knee surgery on January 27 to repair a torn meniscus.  It has been very hard to walk since then.

    Dear Francie,
I just located your blog and thought to add a note on knee surgery.  I had the medial meniscus of my right knee 'scoped three and a half years ago and it was only after seeing my chiropractor (a Cornell grad and former Mr. Collegiate America--as well as the only chiropractor on the 1996 U.S. Olympic team--all this to differentiate him from the many that are not terribly professional) that I learned about appropriate rehab.  In my case, it should have begun within a couple of days and been fairly rigorous.  Unfortunately, many surgeons are really done when the incisions are closed, so I didn't get the best advice.
Anyway, the most significant part of my post surgery work was on my Concept2 rowing machine (they have a website, and I'm not a paid employee).  Within six months--without trying--I'd lost 20 pounds and now, all these years later, seem to be the kid I was at Arizona (except for the face, hair, skin, etc).
Unfortunately, I didn't have the experience of a friend who told me that within a year I wouldn't even know that I'd had surgery.  Most days I get a reminder from my knee that while it was sleeping one afternoon, someone snuck in and stabbed it.  Nevertheless, it works so much better than the day before it was attacked, I think it should forgive and forget.
All the best to you and John.
    Love,
    Bill Stewart
