So my father has decided to retire to the life of a gentleman gambler. He has studied Texas Hold Em poker every night for more than three years. He knows all the best players by name and can recite the odds for the most likely winning hand. He has read the books of the great masters and he has competed on the Internet, as much as he is able with limited computer skills.
So this year for Christmas we got him a pretty nice little poker set. We got the chips, several sets of cards and a card shuffler. I wanted to get him a full table, but decided to hell with THAT expense, it's the thought that counts!
So like you would assume we all gather around the dining room table and old "Peepaw" starts telling the kids how to play cards. Y2Kette is all attentive and eager to play, Y2K Jr. is off in his own 12 year old world and Mrs. Y2K falls asleep before the class is over. Then we deal out the cards.
The end result is as you would expect. After years of nightly study, the only card expert in the room was totally cleaned out by the 12 year old within an hour. Sure I lose it all in the same hand but I don't play cards. And according to my Dad, he might never play again either.
Happy New Year!
