Our prayers go out to all who have family or friends who have been affected by hurricane Katrina. I'm sure things were even worse than what we saw on TV.
Today I went to my very favorite place... Fort Delaware. The day was absolutely perfect. The sun was bright, temperatures were in the low 80's, there was no humidity and there was a VERY nice breeze.

WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
OUR FOCUS: the "History of the American (United States) Civil War," with by-products of laughter, and camaraderie!
OUR GOAL: to enhance your Genealogy activity, knowledge, and "wisdom" by talking about the history surrounding their lives and actions; specifically the "Civil War" that our ancestors lived through and died because of.
Captain Oliver Wendell Holmes of the 20th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, said it so well.
"I think it is a noble and pious thing
To do whatever we may by written
Word or molded bronze and sculpted
Stone to keep our memories, our
Reverence and our love alive and
To hand them on to new generations
All too ready to forget."
OUR PROMISE: to provide an "online" environment that is NOT judgmental and to address ALL aspects of this "Pivotal Period" in our History, with honesty and truth (as we know it).

--------OUR WEEKLY READING--------
(items from our Letters, Songs,
and Poems evenings)

This poem is from writing and Fighting the Civil War by Wm Styple. It originally appeared in the NY Sunday Mercury on January 17, 1864
Sunday Table- Talk
The best explanation of the following received poem, will be found in the
author's note, which is as follows:
"I had in my mind at the time that section in the 'National Cemetary' at Gettysburg which is set apart for the burial of those unrecognized bodies collected on the field."
UNKNOWN
All side by side they lie interred
And at their heads a single stone
Which speaks for all in one sad word,
Unknown
They calmly rest, the good and brave,
Who came when war's wild blast was blown,
And nobly won an honored grave,
Unknown
They came from homes with plenty blest,
Where peace and joy were all their own,
And now, afar from friends they rest,
Unknown
How many hearths are bleak and bare,
How many hearts the loss bemoan
Of those who sleep serenely there,
Unknown
Perhaps some watch and hope, though vain,
For one whose spirit long has flown,
Who perished on that bloody plain,
Unknown
But soft above each manly breast
The tender springing grass is grown,
The cloak 'neath which so many rest
Unknown
And at th' Almighty's final call,
Their glory that in blood was sown
will reap reward with Him, where all
Are known.

Abraham Lincoln is the only president who ever owned a patent for his own invention. This invention was a boat that had chambers filled with air. The chambers worked to keep the vessel afloat while in shallow water.
