Moving theology

Turns out Paul Rasor, one of the more interesting Unitarian Universalist theologians, has left Pendle Hill, the Quaker religious center where he was associate dean and teacher of biblical and religious studies. As of May 1, he is the director of the Center for the Study of Religious Freedom at Virginia Wesleyan College. That sounds like a great place for a Unitarian Universalist theologian to be. You can read the full news release at http://www.vwc.edu/news_events/releases/release.php?category=all&disp=271.

In addition, Paul has a new book out as of April 29, published by the UUA's publishing arm, Skinner House. Faith without Certainty: Liberal Theology in the 21st Century is supposed to explore the tensions between individual freedom in religion on the one hand, and the community of religious liberals on the other hand. I have not yet read the book, but it's supposed to be written for a general audience. You can find it on the UUA Bookstore online at http://www.uua.org/bookstore/product_info.php?cPath=3_9&products_id=1444

Paul has been doing some interesting work over the past five years, trying to articulate where exactly we Unitarian Universalists fit into the larger religious landscape. Perhaps his new book, and his new job, will draw some more Unitarian Universalists into this kind of study and wider conversation.

    Re: jfieldnerd's comment --

Conundrum is hardly the word -- should we go hear Jane Rzepak, perhaps the finest Unitarian Unviersalist preacher, or should we go hear Paul Rasor, perhaps the finest Unitarian Universalist theologian? Arrrgh!

One of my GA conundrums is that Rasor's workshop is scheduled against the CLF worship and the workshops on Hartshorne and James Luther Adams are both at the same time during the next block.
