Music Roundup

Missing a sold-out concert is like seeing other people in love. Sure, it's beautiful and everything, but what's in it for you? That said, here are some shows you can actually hear, not just hear about.

Tonight: Trail of Dead brings anthemic but sweet happenings to the Black Cat.

April 13: It's a bluesy-punk evening when the Kills take the stage at the Black Cat. Scout Niblett and the Routineers open. (Yes, I know, but the Black Cat is where lots of good music happens.)

April 17: Handsome Boy Modeling School featuring Dan the Automator and Prince Paul is at the 9:30 Club Sunday. Dan the Automator is a producer extradordinaire probably best known for his work with Kool Keith ('Dr. Octagon') and for being part of the Grammy-nominated Gorillaz. In Handsome Boy, he teams up with Prince Paul, who produced De La Soul. It's hip-hop for people who like anime, way left-of-center. K-Os and Rondo Brothers open.

April 28: Louis XIV, Runner and the Thermodynamics, Nic Armstrong and the Thieves at the Black Cat is the kind of show I love - three bands for only ten dollars. And what bands! Louis XIV is like a glam rock version of the Strokes - San Diego style. Runner is just rowdy - a power trio that plays like they're in someone's garage, but in a good way. Nic Armstrong opens.
