Bloc Party/Viktor Koen
Bloc Rock at Black Cat
One of the hardest tickets to get this spring was for the string of dates by UK media vines, Bloc Party. They closed their US tour with a sold out show at the Black Cat on Saturday. I was giddy as they recreated much of the baroque guitar effects found on their album. And that bass drum sound could've swallow a horse. It was a great show, even if the Abercrombie clad showed up in numbers sufficient enough to ruffle the feathers of my inner indie snob.
Viktor Koen at Fraser Gallery
The photography of New York's Koen will be on display at Fraser in Georgetown beginning this Friday and running through May 18. I'm very excited to see the show. Using a digital sampling process, Koen is able to create gossamer images of surreal and haunting beauty that look to be much more satisfying than the somewhat lackluster Sally Mann exhibit that touched on similar themes at the Corcoran last summer. Check out more of his work at ViktorKoen.com.
