Weekend Roundup

Photographer David Fenton's show opens tonight at the Govinda Gallery and will be up all next week. He shot images during the '60s that might be mirrored by events near the White House this weekend. The International Monetary Fund and World Bank will hold conferences and protesters will be out in full force. Some streets will be closed for the whole weekend after today's rush hour. That's why we're heading to Mie N Yu after the show -- it's right nearby.

'Seven Samurai' is showing at the E Street theatres for the next two weeks. Directed by Japanese icon Akira Kurosawa, it's one of the best action flicks ever made, but it's rarely in movie theaters. We're talking about old school swordplay, scrumptious cinematography and righteous philosophy. Nothing against 'Kill Bill,' but I'm sure even Quentin Tarantino would recommend that you see this flick.

And don't forget about the Critical Mass bike ride that starts in Dupont tonight (Friday) at 5. Stay away unless you want to get run over by dirty hippie couriers and/or clean but angry activists.

Seven Samurai is a masterpiece! Definitely a must-see for any film buff who hasn't had the pleasure of watching on the big screen.
