Portland Jail Blazers Redux

Just when you thought the Trail Blazers roster had broken every letter of the law, 3rd-year G/F Qyntel Woods goes and gets suspended for alleged dog fighting in his Lake Oswego home. Dogfighting is a felony in Oregon (good) and is punishable by up to $100k and 5 years.

This is just the latest in a laundry list of offenses that've earned Portland's team the horribly funny nickname: the Jail Blazers. And thanks to JailBlazers.info, here is that list:

Marijuana
Damon Stoudamire
Rasheed Wallace
Qyntel Woods
Erick Barkley
Isaiah Rider
Drunk Driving
Gary Grant
Zach Randolph
Rod Strickland
Driving w/out a License or w/ a Suspended License
Woods
Rider
Wallace
Assault
Gary Trent
Ruben Patterson
Wallace
Grant
Failing to Leave a Fight
Bonzi Wells
Barkley
Cursing at an Officer
Jermaine O'Neal
Trespassing
Wells
Providing Alcohol to Minor Girls
Marcus Brown
Witness to Brother Shooting 3 People
Randolph
Cocaine
Shawn Kemp
Bad Parenting
Kemp (7 children w/ 6 different women)

And, no, I'm not making this up. Who're other NBA scofflaws?

What's funny is that team was a consistent 50-win ball club in the tough West and would have had a title in 2000 if the refs didn't hand Game 7 to the LA Lakers.  Pretty good for a bunch of ballers who according to most comments here should be in jail forever for using marijuana.

I'll never forget the memories I have of that ballin Portland Blazer team from 1999-2003 when they almost knocked out the Mavs after falling behind 0-3!

No one talks about Karl Malone impregnating a 13 year old or Larry Bird's several illegitimate kids.  But they're superstars not 'thugs' like the Blazers...

what a disgrace to America, they should be embarrassed but no, we have elevated black athletes to a new high while they sink so low

Athletes get away with most crimes, including murder. Yet we all look up to them as heroes. The bottom line is they perform on the field and we pay to watch them.

Unfortunately with all that money that they command they cannot invest in common sees or a set of brains.  To think our best could only get 3rd place in the Olympics and at least it was not the all crime team.

Why pick on the Blazers.  Professional sports is loaded with convicted felons.  And you know what......we still treat them as heroes.
