SBL Rocks Afghanistan

As host of the world's first-ever sports blog driven webcast/podcast (Sports Bloggers Live), I get lots of email to DCSportsGuy@aol.com and one from this weekend stood out above the rest. It came from Brett Saffell, who's stationed in Afghanistan and listens to SBL via podcast while serving in the Army at "a little NATO-run base." Aside from complimentary words about our program, Brett also sent two items of note:

1) Buzkashi is the national game of Afghanistan, and...

"literally translated means "goat killing" suggesting it was derived from hunting mountain goats by champions on horseback. Today the rider (or team) who is able to pitch a dead calf across a goal line first wins. The game may last as long as a week and is as free-wheeling as the Afghan spirit."

2) This photo of him (Nats cap) and his sergeant (Cubs cap) in a poppy field.

Now, here's more fun from my inbox, IM windows and party boy lifestyle:

· If you missed last night's SBL, check out the on-demand replay for the Football Scientist's analysis of Vick and other top QBs and Will Carroll's straight dope on trade involving Clemens, Burnett, Schmidt, Zito and Dunn. I could listen to both guys for hours.

· Also on SBL, our producer unearthed this gem -- Scott Podsednik's girlfriend, Lisa Dergan.

· Not sure how I missed this, but Ohio LeBlog reported last week that prep phenom Greg Oden will be a Buckeye.

· Sports Flames posts a funny pic of Jeter and Sheffield.

· Real GM posts the top 25 NBA free agents. How is Larry Hughes #7?

· ESPN.com's main page had a header saying Schilling hit 96 on the gun during his rehab start, yet the AP story it linked to says, "Schilling hit 96 on the ballpark radar gun -- though even he doubted that was accurate." In other news, he allowed 5 runs in 5 IP and got the loss.

· Premature Jockularity says Hank Stram made dressing like a pimp on the sidelines fashionable.

· 50 Cent, Snoop and Xzibit are coming out with sneakers.

· 2012 Olympics head to London and Sportz Assassin says it was a shocker.

· Eagles refuse T.O. the right to play summer hoops.
