Hearing John Vanderslice

Watch the Today Show

UPDATE: This Today Show feature on Alex & SBL was rescheduled for next Friday, 8/12 between 8-9 AM ET. Set your DVR accordingly. Thanks.

Alex the Blog Phenom and Sports Bloggers Live will be featured on NBC's Today Show between 8:30-9 AM ET tomorrow (Wed.), although times are subject to change. And if you don't believe the hype, here's a pic of their video guy applying TV war paint on me:

'Til tomorrow, here's some fun with links:

· New (to me) blog: Fire Joe Morgan

· Spinning gold teeth!

· TSN college hoops guru Mike DeCourcy has a blog.

· Bill Simmons uses 'Anchorman' quotes to summarize the NBA offseason. Like everyone else, I used to be a bigger Simmons fan than I am now, but the NBA is always in his wheelhouse. Just read this:

21. "You are a smelly pirate hooker! Why don't you go back to your home on Whore Island!"

The funniest fight in the movie goes to the funniest fight of the offseason: Portland's Ha Seung-Jin (a 7-foot-3 South Korean) and Nedzad Sinanovic (a 7-foot-3 Bosnian) getting into a fistfight while shooting free throws at a summer workout, with Ha reportedly screaming, "I'll sue! I'll sue!" before getting pulled away. But it didn't stop there: Ha found Sinanovic in the team's weight room and attacked him with a wooden stretching pole, nailing him twice before they were separated. Within 24 hours, they had made up.

But that's not my favorite part. In John Canzano's report about the incident for The Oregonian, he mentioned how this was a good-natured altercation compared to some of the Portland incidents in the past, leading to this paragraph: "This isn't the same as Zach Randolph cold-cocking Ruben Patterson two seasons ago, breaking his eye socket, then being chased around the facility, and later having to spend the night, in hiding, at Dale Davis' house because Randolph feared for his life. The Ha-Sinanovic bout was about good competition, and frustration, and boiling points."

(Umm ... hiding out at Dale Davis' house? What? How have I never heard that one before? What else don't I know about the 1998-2005 Blazers? Why hasn't there been a five-hour "E! True Hollywood Story" yet? Why aren't cameras rolling at that facility at all times? I know, I know, I ask this every summer. Yeah, but still.)

Dang...did you say he just got back from his honeymoon? What is the deal with sending out adorable pictures of men when they are taken....that is just mean. When did Torturing women become a hobby! Then again I think it has always been there...of course not...women NEVER torture men! ;-)

Missed the part about Ha Seung-Jin....goddamnit if that isn't fourteen feet of Korean/Bosnian violence I want a video clip of.

Little known fact: There is no hip hop culture in North Korea. Fanatical leader Kim Jong-Il came to the conclusion that it harmed the Revolution, and it was eliminated in a series of Five Year Plans that culminated in the explosion of a crude nuclear weapon at a free MC Ren concert in The Outer Pyongyang People's Center For Decadent Western Subculture, which is now known as "Hyung Si Vahn (The Sudden Desert)."

    UN protests were ignored.

Again.....Alex should hop into Katie Couric's lap, and say "I know what you're thinking and yes, they do call me the Phenom"

If Matt Lauer speaks, Alex should just point at his receding hairline, sallow complexion, and whistle the theme from "Philadelphia."

Lauer may or may not have the AIDS, but if anyone wants to see the male version of "hitting the wall," they should check, say, 1995 Matt vs today's more Bergen-Bergenish look.
