Fanblogs XIV Poll: Week 6

Florida, LSU and Michigan State all got a loss rung up on 'em since last week's rankings, but they all remain in the poll. Arizona State slides out so Alabama could slide in and even Joe Pa's Nittany Lions are flirting with the Top XIV. Regardless, here are the teams receiving my Irrelevant votes in this week's Fanblogs XIV poll (last week's rank in parenthesis):

MOTTRAM'S WEEK 6 VOTES & NOTES

1. USC (1) -- Won two in a row on the road vs. top-25 teams by an average of 21 points and somehow seem more vulnerable than before.
2. Texas (2) -- My brother says I'm wack for keeping them ahead of Tech (see the comments section of last week's Top XIV), but the Longhorns win by 33/game; including one at the Horseshoe. They're not droppin'.
3. Virginia Tech (5) -- Beamer Ball + a QB named Vick works out alright.
4. Georgia (6) -- Going to Knoxville to prove they deserve to be here.
5. FSU (7) -- Drew Weatherford keeps getting better and the 'Noles keep rolling (probably all the way to Gainesville on Nov. 26).
6. Ohio State (8) -- On the road to Happy Valley after a week off. I think I smell a route.
7. Miami (9) -- Beat South Florida by 20 after SF beat Louisville by 31.
8. Tennessee (10) -- Ole Miss isn't any good, but the Vols still beat them soundly just five days after a huge comeback win in Baton Rouge.
9. Notre Dame (12) -- With their schedule so far -- at Pitt, Michigan, Washington and Purdue and home against Michigan State -- it's amazing they're 4-1 with an average margin of victory of 17. This USC game (in two weeks) is gonna be phenomenal.
10. California (13) -- Undefeated with five decisive victories but must go to UCLA this Saturday.
11. Alabama (nr) -- Preseason sleeper woke up all over the Gators.
12. Florida (3) -- Yeah, I guess I had them (way) too high.
13. LSU (4) -- Wildly talented and inconsistent.
14. Michigan State (11) -- A close win at Notre Dame, a close loss at home against Michigan and three blowouts. Now a week off before heading to the Horseshoe.

The Next Five -- Arizona State, Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Penn State, Michigan

Post your rankings.

-- Virginia Tech 5-0, opponents are 15-16; VT has played 2 top 25 teams,  and of all the teams they played, one opponent is a conf leader.

-- Florida State opponents are 13-13, including the 2-3 IIA team they played; FSU has played 2 top 25 teams, one of their opponents is now a conf leader.

both are in your southeastern poll

-- Penn State 6-0,  opponents are 19-13; PSU has played 2 top 25 teams (both at home), none of their opponents are now conf leaders

-- Minnesota 5-1,  opponents are 18-16, Mn has played three top 25 teams (2 away, 1 at home),  three opponents are now conf leaders,

If Minnesota beats 5-1 Wisc, 4-2 OSU, 4-2 Iowa, and 4-2 MSU, they still won't get ranked above 15th. Too far north.
I suppose they would have to bve from the small 12 (ACC) or the SEC to get ranked
    .

While Ohio State is the best team in the Big 10, Wisconsin is likely to win the conference.  Wisconsin does not play Ohio State or Michigan State and has already beaten Michigan.  The Badgers play Purdue and Iowa at home.  Minnesotq and Penn State are the toughest road games.  It is quite possible that Wisconsin could run the table.  If that happens, theret could cause some interesting possibilities for bowl season.  What do you think?

USC #1 'til someone proves they are better.  Trojans slow started two weeks in a row and showed what they are made of.  How many teams out there have the depth of the Trojans to survive 1-2 defensive injuries per each game for the 1st 4 weeks.  Someone mentioned how "great ASU" could have been remembered but for want of a fumble by USC, Huh?!  A team that is up by 21-3 at half time that can't get inspired to play tough to keep the pressure on in 2nd half is lacking something....coaching, talent, and conditioning.
