Hearing the Arcade Fire

View From the Couch ~ Day 3

The Cards smoked the Pads and Smoltz dominated Clemens in Day 3 of what has been, aside from Graff's Gaffe, a pretty mundane playoff. Watching most of the Atlanta game led me to three very, very important questions:

1) How is Andruw Jones fat? If I played CF six days/week for six months/year (especially in the Georgia summertime), I'm pretty sure I'd be fit (and obscenely rich, although I definitely wouldn't hit 51 HR). The food must be really good at the Gold Club.

2) Why is Atlanta so good at grooming talent? From the Jones brothers by different mothers to SI cover boy Jeff Francoeur to Game 2 hero Brian McCann to Giles the younger to Ryan freaking Langerhans, the Braves have more homegrown studs than HBO has original programming.

3) Is John Smoltz a Hall of Famer? Sports Frog says, "Yes," and I'm in line with them: 177 wins, 154 saves and a 15-4 postseason record while being the only mainstay on a team that's won 14 straight division titles.

John Smoltz Smoltz a HOFer?

Do you remember the starting pitchers when this streak of Atlanta's started?

    Tom Glavine
    Steve Avery
    John Smoltz
    Charlie Liebrandt

That Smoltz is still there is amazing; truly amazing.

Smoltz, though I am not to fond of him, is a HOFer.

Sadly, the Gold Club is no more, closed after the feds swooped in. Andruw frequents the Cheetah and Magic City, most likely.
