Hearing my mom call repeatedly to say how proud she is
Woody and Jay Are My Homeboys!
So... the big Cold Pizza gig has come and gone. I was on for 3-4 minutes this morning with their host, Jay Crawford, and it was basically a duel of two men trying to out pretty each other while discussing this strange phenomenon known as "sports blogging." Between the two of us there was enough makeup involved to make the high-def version of Chris Berman look au naturale by comparison.
Metrosexuality aside, it was a fantastic experience (even if I didn't get to mention my favorite blogs -- Deadspin, MJD, Sportz, etc.). It's not often that I get to hang out in a "green room" with Andre Reed (Bills), James Hasty (Jets), Dante Hall (Chiefs) and Bob Glauber (Newsday). Out of everyone, though, Woody Paige was the best. I cornered him for what started off as an uncomfortable conversation but turned out to be 5-10 minutes about his career and some of the fun stuff he's done (like play poker in Monte Carlo with MJ). He definitely carries the goofy dad persona on-air to off.
Speaking of personas, Skip Bayless's disgruntled sportswriter act doesn't seem to be an act. He pretty much walks around the studio scowling with his eyes glued to the ground. I don't know, maybe he doesn't like bloggers (they do smell of cabbage). Oh, and Jay (Crawford, that is) was very cool. Seems like a genuinely nice guy, and I'm glad I got a chance to tell him that he does a good job. I don't think he hears that much.
At this point, I'm pretty sure I've spent too much time writing about this, so I'll stop now... but hopefully continue next time I'm out whoring myself on TV in the name of the big, bad blogosphere.

Sorry, Ty. Anyway, Jamie you did a great job.

Take it easy, Alex. Not at all intended to be a shot at you or any of the great stuff you've accomplished. And actually, I'm not even implying that SBL "advertises" you. My point is that much of the national attention that the show has received has been because of you and the interest you've generated. You're right, SBL is a great show, and I'm happy to see that it's getting it's own time in the limelight.
Believe me, bud, it'd be downright wrong to take shots at a little guy half my age. Don't take it personal. -
Jamie, you did great. Awesome interview, too bad you didn't get to plug some blogs, but I didn't plug anything on Leno, so that's alright. Ty, why did you make that comment? SBL is a great show, and they do not "advertise" me 24/7.

J --
Did not see the interview, but caught second-hand reports from Curty, the old school MoreThanRandom Radio co-host, that the interview went great and that you "seem like a pretty cool guy." If you can digest his magnanimous comments, give yourself a pat on the back for some publicity that was certainly long overdue. Finally, some pure press for Sports Bloggers Live that wasn't a sideshow to Alex's Sports Blog...
