Hearing Busch chant, "Let's go Astros!"

Houston, We Have a Pennant!

Well, the Astros sure put the great Pujols and ghosts of October past to bed, didn't they? A few thoughts from a ho-hum game that sends Houston to its first World Series ever:

-- Cheers, Biggio and Bagwell. Two HOFers with 30+ years of experience between 'em, and now they've finally made it. Hard not to pull for these guys.

-- WTF, Jeannie Zelasko? It's not her fault, but the Fox Game Breaks have got to go. It's not a "game break" if the Sox won the pennant four days ago. "Jeannie Zelasko here with a Fox Game Break... We landed on the moon!"

-- Roy Oswalt is a man. He surpassed 260 IP on the year tonight and is still a veritable buzzsaw (97 mph!). 3-0 in this postseason, 4-0 all time. NLCS mp3.

-- So long, Busch. I hope the Nats learn a lesson from St. Louis and renovate RFK on the cheap to give it half the charm of the Cards stadium that was.

Astros celebrate

Now, it's Clemens vs. Contreras in Game 1 at Chicago on Saturday. I've picked every playoff series right so far (dumb luck), and I'm going with the ChiSox in 7. It's gonna be a good one.

Update: Hear the World Series preview on SBL radio, starring special guests such as Troy McClure (kidding), USA Today's Mel Antonen, Exile in Wrigleyville (great name) and The Juice Box.

88 years maybe shoeless joe, if he could, might turn over in his grave (not hardly), but it will be the white sox time to shine. The Astros lack pitching, hitting no match for Chicago's nine.

    Yes Jamie,

as I digress, I am picking the Astros to win it all.

I propose that we change the name of this blog from Mr. Irrelevant to Mr. Russert.

I'm with you, Lew.  I can agree to disagree.  We both support the troops.
