Much to our delight, British gossip site/newsletter Pop Bitch included a tidbit a month and a half ago that set off one of those great "Zack Morris is dead"-style rumors:

"Strangest Renee-Kenny rumour coming out of the States. The marriage fraud? His friendship with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning."

This tiny note spawned multiple blogasms such as this one from Deadspin and this one from Mighty MJD (I also mentioned the rumor on SBL), but perhaps we should have considered the source. I say this not because I like Peyton Manning (because I don't), but because the following item was in this week's Pop Bitch:

"Two Tampa Bay cheerleaders were arrested when they were discovered in the toilet cubicle of a bar, "engaged in some type of sexual activity."

Now, any true fan of American sport knows that the lesbian cheerleaders were proud members of the Carolina TopCats and not the Buccaneers' (more heterosexual) squad. Although, I would love to find out that there was another lesbian-cheerleaders-caught-in-a-bathroom story out there, but I doubt that's the case.

So, as far as we're concerned, the Manning & Chesney rumor may as well be about McNabb & Chingy, Plummer & Vedder, Williams & Kravitz, er, wait a minute ... Regardless, Pop Bitch -- not a reliable source for your U.S. sporting news and gossip (even if we'll continue to read it every week).

Update: Lush Factor got bloggy with Manning & Chesney and was upset that I did not include him in this post. Also, in an email from Deadspin, I learned their new nickname -- Chesnning.

  I bet Peyton just uses that clotheshorse wife to draw pretty young boys into his clutches for a lil bit of the ol' QB Sneak...
