Redick Is Coming to SBL

There's a lot to say about J.J. Redick. If you're Dick Vitale, it's "He's the best shooter to ever flick his wrist in the general direction of the nylon, baby!" If you're my brother, it's "I hate him worse than Derek Jeter wearing a Troy Aikman jersey." And if you're me, it's "He certainly shouldn't still be driving a Corolla around Durham."

B'anyway, we're going to have young J.J. on Sports Bloggers Live Monday evening, so if you have something to say to him, or a question perhaps, send it my way: dcsportsguy@aol.com. We'll try to work it in on-air. Thanks.

2004-'05 ACC Player of the Year

First off.  Let me say thank you for focusing completely on topic with your response.  I'm not being sarcastic.  I truly mean it.

As for his most recent game.  He played extremely well, as he's done his entire collegiate career.

'   "...whoever thinks this kid can't play at the next level, all those naysayers out there, baby, he's special...he's a special player..."  '

Dick Vitale (on JJ Redick's performance against Indiana) 11-30-2005'

Here we have someone with far more credibility than I have (obviously), directly disagreeing with what I've stated.  Perfect.  It's a shot against my opinion and its one I can not counter.  That said I have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Vitale.  I don't see Reddick as anything but a role player off the bench at the next level.  I've stated my reasons why so I won't go through them again.  We won't know which one of us is wrong till next season at the earliest.  And if I am wrong, I'll be sure to admit it in my poorly written blog.

Redick, Duke Overcome Hot Killingsworth to Top Indiana

...Redick scored 29 points, including six during a critical late stretch, as No. 1 Duke held off the 17th-ranked Hoosiers 75-67 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday night.

"The will to win, I mean that one drive he had for the three-point play that, whoosh! He just willed that sucker in," Krzyzewski said. "I'm glad he's on my bus or I'm on his bus or whatever."

For Redick, it was just a typical game. He shot 10-for-17, including four 3s, had five assists and four rebounds.

                                       Michael Marot, AP, 11-30-2005

"J.J. just refuses to lose.  He's one of the amazing players to play at Duke. That kid is really tough."

Coach Mike Krzyzewski (on JJ Redick's performance against Indiana) 11-30-2005

I assure you I'm not offended in any way.

Don't worry, I won't waste your time or mine with a long response.

I will say one thing, and this is not an attack or anything of the sort.

It's just a little advice and take from it what you will.  Throw it out, ponder it, whatever, the choice is yours.

If someone tells you something that directly compares to something else, use that.

So if you bring up things like Coach K, or Vitale, great.  And if I give you my completely analysis of his game, use THAT to show if or where I'm mistaken/you disagree.  the 'I hate reddick' is comparing apples and oranges, it's a preference.

Again I'm not expecting a reply.  But does saying Reddick doesn't belong as high in the draft as Langden went (11th), a slam?  Think about it.  There's no dissilusionment here, I just truly think in an attempt to defend a player you obviously respect and admire, you went off the handle and thought of implications that weren't there.

I haven't presumed a thing.  I've directly responded to any quotes you've stated, and I tried to do so without cutting out sentences or not doing them in their entirety.

As for my writing.  I'm working on it.  With time it will improve.

    Goodbye and good luck.

    HEY GEPETTO,

I've about had it with you too.

On 11-20 you wrote, "I must admit, I hate JJ too..."

I'm not putting words in your mouth here, you said it, it's part of the record on AOL.  I merely  took exception to it.

    "I hate JJ too..."

That sentence is what set me off onto you in the first place.  I've spent the rest of my entries trying to convince you that hatred (YOUR CHOICE OF WORDS) has no place in college ball.  Even in good old fashioned rivalry.

    Now you're offended.

You wrote on 11-20 that "maybe some (NBA)  team will be dumb enough to draft Reddick as high as....."

If that's not a slam on his skill level, then it's YOU GEPETTO, not me, that's disillusioned.

He's the reigning ACC player of the year.  He's gonna break a lot of Duke and ACC records PLUS - PLUS, he's a good kid with good values and a great familty.  He has taken his limited skills (can't run, can't jump, can't dribble) and outworked everyone else.  He respects his coach and his teammates, and always buys into the team game.

Coach K has said that JJ is one of the best to ever wear a Duke uniform.  WOW!

Vitale says JJ has the best release that he's ever seen.  WOW!

GEPETTO says "I hate JJ too..." WOW!

You couldn't find objectivity if it hit you in the head like a Williams slam ball.

Not only are you presumptive and inconsistent, you're also not a very good writer.

    Perhaps you should try fiction.

GOODBYE GEPETTO.  I no longer have time for your incessant babling.

Note:  Once again this is a part 3.

There, now I don't know how I can make things any clearer.  I think I've plugged up any possibility of assuming any outside interpretations on your part.  If you wish to bring up anything I've actually stated, I'll gladly discuss the matter further, but if you add still more opinions and assumptions on my behalf which I have made zero reference of, then there will be no reply by me and you can go on continuing to create the argument on your own without my assistance.

    The court is yours.
