Bode Miller Is Crazy Like a Fox
If you missed the Bode Miller interview on '60 Minutes', watch some of it now. The recommended clip includes his medieval workout barn (Miller describes it as a "torture device") and a bit about his counter-culture upbringing. It's worth your while even if it doesn't include the brief mention of him skiing in a Euro event while hungover (or buzzed, I guess). Also, let it be known that he's my new favorite Olympian (I don't really have a No. 2), and here's what a couple bloggers be sayin' about him:
Premature Jockularity: "[He] is the archetypical All-American badass. Sure, he could've tapped anything that moves, as Alberto Tomba did, but Bode's an original (and I'm sure, like his Italian predecessor, he'll know what to do if he ever meets Katarina Witt)."
Road to Torino covers the "Bode-Gate" fallout from the 60 Minutes interview: "Bode Miller has formally apologized for the "confusion and pain" his '60 Minutes' remarks caused. Well done. I'm closing this scandal out now. Next!" (ed. note: there are three other Olympics scandals in-progress if you follow the Road to Torino link.)
This is my brother Chris (a.k.a. Saved by the Blog) looking like Bode on the slopes two weeks ago. And, yes, he landed that righteous jump. It was gnarly and he was stoked, which is only natural considering he'd just slammed a Mountain Dew: Code Red in order to get amped.
Bonus: Watch video of Miller going down the hill on one ski.
