Hearing the NFC Championship

Super Bowl XL: Iron City Beers vs. Starbucks Lattes

Pittsburgh was impressive in Denver and Seattle stomped Carolina. Roethlisberger is a full-fledged star and Hasselbeck looks like one too. The stage is set for Bettis's brilliant final act and Alexander is proving he's one of the game's elite backs. And both defenses aren't messing around at all. Should be a good (but not great) Super Bowl XL.

Post your commentary, but here's what bloggers be sayin'...

Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger Hines and Ben

Blitzburgh:

"I am so happy right now, I don't even know what to do... For the first time in the history of the NFL the 6th-seeded team made the championship game, and for the first time in the history of the NFL, that team is going to the Super Bowl! Also, this is the first time that a team has knocked off the 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd team en route to the Super Bowl."

 Cowher Power

Deadspin:

"I just want to say real quick that yes, Jake Plummer did suck today, but really, the Broncos were outplayed in a lot of different ways. They gave up 34 points at home, and Plummer was under constant pressure. I don’t think John Elway would’ve been able to beat this Steelers team today, so I’m not going to be too hard on Jake. And I bet he doesn’t sell out his offensive line in the postgame press conference, either."

 Snakebitten

Sportz Assassin:

"What the Steelers have done is nearly a miracle.  They beat up Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning and Jake Plummer.....Rudi Johnson, Edgerrin James and Mike Anderson....Chad Johnson, Marvin Harrison and Rod Smith.  They go to the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade [they've been in Super Bowl 10, Super Bowl 30 and Super Bowl 40] and their 6th trip overall to the big game.  This is the fifth time in the last 7 years that the road team has won the AFC Championship game.  The AFC Champion has won 6 of the last 8 Super Bowls."

 Bus's 1st Super Bowl

"The story [in the NFC Championship] was how Seattle controlled both lines.  On offense, they did a pretty good job protecting Matt Hasselbeck and opening running lanes for Shaun Alexander.  On defense, they shut down Carolina's run [knocking Nick Goings out was the clincher]...which allowed them to use coverages to stop Steve Smith.  That line also did an excellent job pressuring Delhomme, which led to those two early picks."

 Seneca Freaking Wallace

Dave's Football Blog:

"With no running game to support him, Jake Delhomme has been forced to take the game on his shoulders, and his passer rating is falling faster than the decibel levels in Denver fell between kickoff and halftime... Meanwhile, Shaun Alexander is proving to critics that he's feeling no after-effects from last week's concussion. He's got 80 yards and a TD on 18 carries. More importantly for Seattle, Matt Hasselbeck is having the game of his life... The Panthers secondary looks lost out there half the time."

"At the beginning of the season, Ben Roethlisberger told everyone that this year's team wouldn't win as many games but still might be a better team. So far, they're better by one game, and Big Ben made sure of that by serving up an MVP performance, throwing for 2 TDs and running for one more that clinched it for the visiting Steelers."

 A Star Is Born

Update: Premature Jockularity actually posted this before the championships, but it was prescient and is especially appropriate now that we know it's Steelers-Seahawks in Super Bowl XL:

"A rug vs. God's own grass.

Starbucks vs. Iron City.

Mount Ranier vs. the Alleghenies.

The Puget Sound vs. the Monongohela.

The Space Needle vs. ...maybe, that escalator you need to get up the hills.

Dr. Frasier Crane vs. Dennis Miller.

Kurt Cobain vs. Kurt Angle.

Face it, both these cities deserve one. Seattle's never been to a Super Bowl, or a World Series. They've had one title to celebrate; the NBA in 1979 (for which Providence College's Joe Hassett still wears the ring around these parts). Pittsburgh has been so frightfully close so many times; after 1979, the Steelers are kind of the Red Sox of the NFL."

Steelers are going all the way we have the Bus on the way to take it all the way! Like they said that the Seahawks haven't had as many challenges as the Steelers have had. We have the emotions and drive to take it all the way! We are definitely bringing the Steel curtain for the Seahawk offense and like Roethlisberger said he is going to get the one for the thumb for the Steelers and Pittsburgh but for Bettis!
                                               LET'S GO STEELERS!
