Steve Nash Is My Counter-Culture Hero
In what I guess is a magazine-only article, SI's Jack McMallum profiles Phoenix's great Steve Nash. It's an interesting chronicle of the rise of Nash from Canadian baller with an NBA pipe dream to unheralded frosh at Santa Clara to K.J.'s backup as a rookie in Phoenix to Mark Cuban castoff after the 2003-04 season to last year's MVP to the key element of the Amare-less Suns' standing as the fifth-best team in the NBA.
The seven-page article articulately details how the undersized and slow-footed Nash achieved so much (it's coordination, not quickness) and even details Nash's NBA on TNT commercials with Ali G., including this excellent quote:
"We couldn't use the best stuff," says Nash. "At one point he said to me, 'Did you ever, like, let one of your plums fall outta your shorts to distract the opposition?'"
I love Ali G. And it's hard not to root for Steve Nash. Check out the article.

I don't trust Canada, and I never will trust Canada. Eff them and their funny round bacon.
