UNC beats Duke in Durham on Senior Night. Tar Heel fan and personal fave Sportz Assassin reacts:
"The God, JJ Redick, struggled mightily...missing 15 of his final 16 shots. And not all of them were contested. In fact, he had one really good look at the top of the key....and missed. Everything but the backboard. Wide right.
Like I said on Sports Bloggers Live around the beginning of the season....Redick struggles in the tournament [of course, SI.com's Seth Davis went on air after me, essentially calling me an idiot for thinking that way]. Well, Mr Davis.....Redick is 23-for-80 in his last four games. Two were won in single digits against teams that won't be in the tournament.....and the other two were losses. That's Duke. And that's why I didn't think they can win the whole thing. In his last 5 NCAA tournament games...Redick is 18-for-64. Both are 29% averages. Not good. Maybe you shoulda got this guy some rest, K???"
Lookalikes: Psycho T and The Miz
Sportz goes on to recap UNC's magical season and handicap their Tournament chances. He also goes into detail on all three of the broadcasts of the game (midcourt cam on ESPN, backboard cam on ESPN 2 and Crazies cam on ESPN U), unfortunately he does not mention who the young lady was next to Tyler Hansbrough's dad although I'm pretty sure superagent David Falk was in the shot as well. Anyway, it was just a great game, and we should all be rooting for a rematch next Sunday in the ACC Championship.
In other NCAA news, the 'Cuse hosts 'Nova this afternoon in a game that means tons for the Orange's tourney hopes and is Gerry McNamara's final one in the Dome. My buddy Cain at Syracuse Law informs me that 40 (40!) busloads of Scrantonites (Scranton, PA is McNamara's hometown) arrived yesterday to flood the Irish bars and celebrates the marksman's storied Big East career. Even though a win for Boeheim's boys further hurts Maryland's tourney chances, I hope they send the Wildcats packing. Either way, Cain will be probably get over-served... it's his last home game too!
Related: The AOL Sports desk liveblogged the UNC-Duke game, and they seem to have a thing for Erin Andrews.
Update: Bracketology 101 has an excellent update of all the weekend action and how it affects the Big Dance. They should be posting their Field of 65 later tonight.
