The Brothers Mottram Crash Deadspin's Pants Party
Deadspin is hosting an NCAA "Pants Party", whereby one user per Tourney team shares three tidbits about that program which you may not find anywhere else. It's an ambitious effort that's coming together nicely and has completely taken over the site. The tidbits are posted in matchup format based on the first round games, and my brother and I handled a few of them. Here they be...
-- George Mason (vs. Michigan State); sample tidbit: "Jai Lives. Several NFL teams have sent scouts to watch Mason forward Jai Lewis in action with the hopes of finding the next Antonio Gates. Lewis is Mason’s best player and at 6’7”, 275 lbs, he is three inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than Gates (I have a class with him; he barely fits in the desks). Lewis also has “great hands and athleticism” and possesses Mel Kiper’s most important non-descript NFL draft day asset: terrific upside."
-- Georgetown (vs. Northern Iowa); sample tidbit: "Ewing, Mutombo, Mourning, Iverson… Green and Hibbert? G’town used to be an NBA factory and may have a couple Association stars-in-waiting on the current roster. According to NBADraft.net, sophomores Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert are projected to go 11th and 26th overall in 2007. Green was Big East co-rookie of the year (with Rudy Gay) and is being compared to Hawks forward Al Harrington (alright). Hibbert is 7’2” (Mutombo size but with beef!) and is likened to Greg Ostertag (ouch). Both players were named to All-Big East second team this season."
-- George Washington (vs. UNC Wilmington); sample tidbit: "Omar Williams’ Academic Standing Is Strong to Quite Strong. Washington Post writer Mark Schlabach wrote a long story using Williams (a senior forward) as Exhibit A of why the NCAA’s academic process is flawed. He illustrates his “shaky academic standing in high school” and invalidates his prep school, using the student to shed the system in an extremely negative light. What the writer fails to mention anywhere in the 3,000-word story, however, is that Williams is currently on the Dean’s List at GW. Colonial Hoops goes into greater detail."
Check out the rest over at Deadspin and applaud them for trying something new.
