Hearing the Raconteurs
Jo Mama Up, Prince Down
One reason I can't stop buying the paper is box scores. They're like crack for baseball fans. And reading them online just isn't the same. Two hot items of interest found in this morning's edition:
· Seattle rookie catcher and Japanese All-Star Kenji Johjima has a HR in each of his first two games. Even better is that, according to SI's MLB preview issue, his teammates call him "Jo Mama" (his last name is pronounced jo-JEE-muh). Follow the link to read Baseball Musings' brief analysis of his approach, which is compared to Gary Sheffield's.
· Cecil Fielder's kid is 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts in two games. Somewhere, Lyle Overbay (who Milwaukee let go to make room for Prince) lets loose an evil grin.
Still, the web remains increasingly useful. Without it I'd have no idea that A.J. Pierzynski is bringing the mullet back in Chicago...
Oh yeah, that's a party in back.
Elsewhere, Baseball Musings posts the games of the day (seven starters are making team debuts) and his latest attempt at vlogging (video blogging) yesterday's action. Also, SBL cohort Lush makes his 2006 awards predictions. Mark Mulder for NL CY? I suppose the race is wide open and you know Mulder will get his wins, but his career ERA is 3.87 (3.64 last year).
