Mo and Wagner Fancy Themselves as Sandmen, but What's Your Closer Song?

Yankees fans know that Mariano Rivera enters ballgames to Metallica's Enter Sandman. Which is fine, if you like the Yanks and enjoy Metallica. (I'm more of an O's and G 'n' R guy myself.) What Yanks fans may not have known before Opening Day, however, is that Enter Sandman is also Billy Wagner's song. And now that Wagner is closing games at Shea, it's become the tabloid topic du jour in the city that's not quite big enough for two firemen who fancy themselves as sandmen. SBL even got into the act, asking Jorge Posada* what he thought. His response?

"I think Billy is going to have to change now." (Hear the short mp3.)

Perhaps the funniest thing about this, aside from the bickering between Yanks and Mets fans, is that The Mirl brilliantly nailed it two months ago...

"New York’s newest closer, the crown jewel of the Mets’ off-season restructuring, enters games to the same song as the Yankees’ longtime closer, Mariano Rivera. And the first time Wagner enters a game and “Enter Sandman” plays, a controversy is going to erupt unlike any New York baseball has seen in a long, long time."

Mirl goes on to write that Wagner has used the song since at least 2000 and shouldn't have to change a damn thing. This does bring up one of my favorite sports bar debates though: If you were a closer, what song would you warm up to? For me, the answer has been Fugazi's Shut the Door for some time now. If you aren't familiar with it, the title and chorus are pretty self-explanatory. Plus, it rocks harDCore-style.

Anyway, use the comments to post your closer song and we'll revisit them in a later post. Warning: all mentions of Wild Thing result in an immediate DQ.

Related: SBL's Posada interview will be played in full as part of the Thursday, 4/6 program. My favorite part is when we asked him their coaches tried to teach Johnny Damon how to throw like a man this spring. (Teaser!)

"Why Can't We Be Friends." Just kidding. I stole that from Homer. My song would be Pantera's "Walk."

What better song for Wagner is there than "Ride of the Valkyries"? You knew once Robert Duvall cranked it up from the copter in "Apocalypse Now" that the Viet Cong (and, oh yeah, the civilians along the Mekong Delta) wouldn't be seeing any mercy from this platoon.

If Wagner WANTS to change...I think either Never Gonna Get It - Sean Biggs
or The Best Out - Dipset, both are on the video game Fight Night-Round Three.
    LETS GO METS!

Come on Yankee fans grow up,  since when do you go to minor league games?  Imitation and flattery and all that stuff, let the other guy use it too.  That will just remind anyone who is at that game where they really want to be
