Hearing O's-Tribe day game at the Yard

No Prom, No Problem

USA Today names their All-USA high school basketball starting five, and the feature includes bio information for each player, most notably their college of choice and whether or not they're going to the prom ...

· Greg Oden, 7'0" center -- Ohio State and "No, I don't have any interest [in going to prom]."

· O.J. Mayo, 6'5" guard -- Only a junior and "Yes, I'm [going to prom] with my cousin. We're best friends."

· Kevin Durant, 6'10" forward -- Texas and "No [I'm not going to prom], I'll be playing in the Jordan Game in New York that night."

· Tywon Lawson, 6'0" guard -- UNC and "Not [going to prom] this year."

· Spencer Hawes, 7'0" center -- Washington and "[I'm going to prom] with my girlfriend."

Wow, I was really starting to get sad for a minute there. Not because Durant is going to Texas (despite playing high school ball in Garyland) but because three of these five kids aren't going to prom and a fourth is taking his cousin. Have they no life? Are they that sheltered within the cocoon of being a blue-chip baller? What happened to the days of Kobe and Brandy at Lower Merion High?

Of course, all concerns we're alleviated once Deadspin posted this photo of Oden ...

No wonder Oden doesn't "have any interest" in going to prom.

Just b/c Gary doesn't get all the MD kids doesn't mean I'm gonna give up hope.

I can't believe O.J. stands for Ovinton J'Anthony. He should definitely go by his given name.

Motts, please tell me you were joking about Durant, you should know by now that Gary Williams is the worst in state recruiter in all of major college athletics....just ask joe forte, keith bogans, rudy gay, josh boone, hell even Omari Israel.

As for Ovinton J'Anthony, you can take the boy out of kentucky but you can't take kentucky outta the boy (his cuz???!!!???)

What you failed to point out is that OJ Mayo is from West Virginia and is going to prom w/ his cousin. More than just "best friends" perhaps?
