Bears New DB Is a Real DB
The newest Chicago Bear, 25 year-old cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. signed a five-year, $21 million deal and celebrated with friends late Saturday night by beating a laptop-using Denny's patron unconscious. Since the incident involves an NFL player, an avid computer user and an assault charge, naturally, sports bloggers are on the case. Here's a sampling of what's been written:
SBL Craig ...
"Walk into any Denny's Restaurant after 2 am you are walking into Tombstone, AZ circa 1879 - the rules of normal society no longer apply. If you walk into a Denny's with a laptop (let's say you want to update your blog) - and you run into a professional football player and his posse, there is a good chance you will get your ass kicked."
The Mighty MJD ...
"It’s hard to imagine laptop guy provoking Manning Jr. and and his posse. What was he doing, sitting there like, “Hey, you don’t even know what Alt + F4 does, bitch. You can’t even spell WiFi, you dial-up having [bleep]. Get outta my face, or I’ll reboot the side of your [bleep] head. DELL ‘TIL I DIE!”"
Lush Factor (a Chicago fan)...
"If I was the Bears, I would see if I could void that contract. Smooth move Ricky Manning. Real smooth."
Dave's Football Blog (a Carolina fan)...
"I'd like to thank the Chicago Bears for taking this guy off the Panthers' hands. Whatever defensive back Carolina picks up in the middle rounds should be an improvement in maturity alone."
Deadspin ...
"We’re as surprised as you that it wasn’t us involved in the incident, though, to be fair, we wouldn’t have complained to a manager; we would have just packed up the laptop and sprinted out the door. (Weeping, probably.) But in case any of you ever wondered what football players think of every single one of you … this should sum it up."
