Hearing Oh No! Oh My!
Bush's Level of Taint
The news of the day -- at least on SportsCenter -- is that Reggie Bush denies that he and his family violated NCAA rules by living in a $750,000 house owned by a man with ties to a prospective agent while the likely no. 1 overall pick was still playing for the Trojans. If he's wrong though, he may lose his Heisman and USC may forfeit their '04 national championship. Now, I am not here to judge and certainly don't know the whole story, but Bush did say this when asked on SBL what would be his first purchase after signing with the Texans...
"I'm looking forward to, uh, you know, getting my parents a house. That's something, you know, I've always, you know, dreamed of. Being able to take care of them. I mean, you know, Get them whatever they want."
Not much to that quote and it certainly isn't damning in any way, but I found it funny in light of the recent news. Anyway, hear the full interview and here's what USC bloggers be sayin':
Boi From Troy ...
"This just underscores one of my few criticisms of Coach Pete Carroll–that his program lacks discipline."
Trojan Wire ...
"Eh, some think this is really big news. We just think NCAA statutes are a little silly, and so is this "deepthroat" investigation."
"This is the kind of thing that drives coaches and fans nuts. It's a part of big time college football whether we like it or not."
* Note: The headline is in reference to one of the funniest Daily Show bits I've ever seen.

Honestly, I see the whole situation as a bunch of bullshit. How can you sit back and say that Reggie did not work his ass off for 3 years while playing for USC. I do not agree with the whole house situation, but it truly is not his fault. If this is true, I think that anyone (young or old) would have accepted the offer as well. I mean who really turns down a $750,000 house. As a student-athlete myself I know how tempting things may be, but this should not reflect who Reggie is as a player. Taking the heisman away is one thing, I can understand that...I do not agree, but I understand; but giving the championship to Texas is unreasonable. USC won the game with or without Reggie having the house they still would have won the game, for someone to sit there and say they dont deserve it makes no sense. Everyone acts as if Reggie was doing drugs and he gained some supernatural power over the years to win games, but this is not the case and I definetly think all of these allegations should be dropped. His family moved out the house, let by gones be by gone. Lastly, I wish Reggie the best of luck no matter where he goes I will always be a fan, and to the rest of the black athletes out there trying to do the damn thang...Keep ya head up..Things will NEVER change.
