Hearing Bill Walton and Buster Olney on SBL

See You Down the Road, Fellas

This week marks the departure -- not the passing, just the departure -- of a key figure in the creation and development of Sports Bloggers Live, Bob Wooldridge (or Bob Vomit, as SBL regulars came to know him). Bob directed the show from the start, getting it off the ground to become AOL's first podcast and developing it to feature the biggest names in sports and be heard millions of times over.

While Bob's humor, creativity and guidance will be missed in the SBL studio and on campus at AOL, his legacy endures, however, with a brilliant cameo in SBL's behind-the-scenes video -- "They don't call me Bob Vomit." -- and the signature signoff that I steal from him to close each edition of SBL -- "Come back [for our next show], it'll be just like this time, only better!"

And while we're here, it's a good time to remember another dearly departed member of the SBL band of brothers, George Schellenger. George left AOL in search of the prize -- something to do with space or sharks or both -- not so long ago as well. Without his guidance we'd still sound like that Schweaty Balls sketch on SNL (really, that's what we sounded like on Day 1). We've come a long way, and a lot of that is thanks to George.

Ironically, after George flew the coop it was Bob who moved into his office only to find a simple message on the white board: "George was here." Well, when I stopped by yesterday to say my goodbyes, I saw another message scrawled underneath George's, and anyone who has seen Shawshank Redemption can appreciate this...

So adios, amigos. Without you two there would be no SBL and all of these great things would have never occurred. I won't forget it, and neither should you. All in all, working together has been my pleasure, and I hope we'll always be in touch.

Good luck to Bob, although I never really knew him or talked to him. SBL has really grown into a great show compared to day 1 ... and oh yeah, please don't remind of day 1 of PBL, I sounded like the biggest dork/idiot/moron ... and any other word anyone else would like to add to that. LoL.

    You guys are the best.

Words can't really express how much these guys meant to the show. I will miss you both dearly. Good luck in your endeavors (Not like you need it). I wish you both the best in everything you do. You will be sorely missed!
