Hearing Jose Gonzalez

'Darko Is a Serbian Gangster'

Detroit rebounds from their middling play against Cleveland and loss in the conference final opener against Miami to win Game 2 with a well-rounded effort from the Pistons starting five, including 16 and 7 from Rasheed Wallace. Speaking of, in 'Sheed's honor, The Association points us to this ESPN gallery of The Many Faces of Sheed.

Rasheed Wallace Sheed's I-Just-Made-a-3 Face

It's good, quick fun chronicling the sharp-shooting power forward's career from Chapel Hill (pre-ink) to Washington (so sad to see him in a Bullets jersey) to Portland (NBA record 41 techs in '00-01) to Atlanta (who knew) and finally to Detroit (still can't believe he fits in there). Finally, the last page is quotes, including the immortal "Ball don't lie" and the one I used in the headline here.

Well done, ESPN. Also, kudos to The Association for their own set of photo series. My favorite is the one of the Spurs whining. So funny.

Update: Rebelk9 a.k.a. Unsilent Majority IMs with "Where's the love for the I'm-So-High-Right Now Face?" Seriously, how much weed was 'Sheed smoking per week during his Portland days? I'd guess an ounce of the good stuff, easy.

How about covering some of the high risk sports that never get  any attention like gymnastics and diving?  Do follow-ups on some of the people in these sports that have gotten injured and came back.

His best was when he threw a towel in Arvydas Sabonis' face. I forget when it was, but I bet someone here will remember.

Sheed never saw the video I saw of Our Vydas while he played in Spain. Some dude got up in his face, and Vyd just grabbed him by the ears and head-butted him. Instant KO.

Some dude went to jump in, but Arvdas saw him coming. The guy wisely ran away, and Sabonis briefly chased him around the backboard support for a few laps.

If there were a stream nearby, I would have been not at all surprised to have seen him stuff his face into it and come out with a slamon in his mouth.

Best basketball fight I ever saw, and probably best ANY fight I ever saw. The two victims were American blacks, too... it's not like he was beating down a Swede or something.

'Sheed's "I Just Made a 3" face is a nice change from his usual "You Really Gon Call a Foul On Me?!?" face: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2005/writers/lang_whitaker/06/06/the.links/p1_rasheed.jpg
