Hearing Black Star

Reading the HGH Tea Leaves

Deadspin's Will Leitch posts names from the Jason Grimsley affidavit, and, because Albert Pujols is implicated, it's making waves in the house. By waves I mean it's being discussed in blogs (see: below) on talk shows (see: Keith Olbermann) and in editorial meetings at major sports sites (see: AOL Sports), but the reason it's not making it off of the airwaves and onto the headlines is that the names, especially Pujols, are largely circumstantial.

Leitch starts the post by saying he has about an 80% confidence level in his source(s). Then he says that trainer Chris Mihfeld is the redacted name who allegedly referred Grimsley to an amphetamines source. From that source, Grimsley says he scored amphetamines, steroids and HGH. Finally, it turns out that Mihfeld has been Pujols' trainer since 1999. So, essentially, Pujols' trainer may or may not have referred Grimsley to a source where he could get amphetamines. Not that damning, but certainly enough to make Prince Albert, the Cardinals, St. Louis fans and Major League Baseball sweat profusely.

Regardless of the multiple jumps to conclusion here, which Deadspin readily acknowledges, it's obvious that the Grimsley revelations will have a major impact on the game and its future testing procedures. I mean, this went from Jason freaking Grimsley to Albert freaking Pujols in 24 hours flat. For more reactions to Will's post, turn to the blogosphere (for now)...

I think that once again, a player gets caught not doing the right thing- and he looks for someone to blame. Like Chris Mihfeld said, he met Grimsley in 2003 and all of this controversy is supposed to have happened in 2000. Duh. Grimsley just wants to point his finger in another direction because he thinks he's someone special. Why is it that althletes and celebrities think they can get away with crap because of their status. I think Grimsley needs to admit to being a "punk" and lay off Pujols.

Hey, Mr. Irrelevant... thanks for the link. I've seen your stuff linked from Deadspin. I shall add your link to my blogroll. Thanks again.

And in that image, is that Mark Hamill on the left?
