Redick Arrested for DWI

Via Deadspin comes this story: J.J. Redick was arrested in Durham at 1 AM last night for driving while impaired. Apparently, the former Duke star and hopeful NBA lottery pick made an illegal U-turn to avoid a police checkpoint and was released on bond at 4 AM.

 The Mug Shot

First, you'd think he'd have immunity in Durham. At least for illegal U-turns.

Second, as far as mug shots go, that's not bad. Bonus points for having one collar popped.

Third, it'll be interesting to see how this affects his stock. NBADraft.net has him going 14th to Utah, who almost certainly won't draft him after this, and I've heard rumors that have him going as high as 7th to Boston.

Regardless, even as a Maryland fan, I'm rooting for the guy. He stopped by SBL last November and was really personable and even joked with us about the 7th Floor Crew. Here's to hoping he learned his lesson without harm and finds the right situation for himself in the Association.

Related: The blogging product I use, AOL Journals, just launched a new feature today whereby you can search all posts ever made on a specific blog, Mr. Irrelevant included. So check out all nine pages worth of search results for 'Redick' on this site.

Update: The good ol' AP has more details, including that Redick's license has been suspended for 30 days and that his blood-alcohol was 0.11, barely over the NC legal limit of 0.08.

Update: More bad news for Redick, this time regarding his health...

"Redick failed a physical at the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando and will be out for an extended period with a back problem that may require surgery, according to a source with close NBA contacts."

I only wish that he mothed off when they were pulling him out of the car, so we could see him take a Rodney King-style beating from a bunch of Hey Andy country cops.
