Hearing Jose Gonzalez
So, the NBA Draft, Eh?
If you've come by this site at all over the past week, you know Sports Bloggers Live and The Basketball Jones over did it for the NBA Draft, which is fine, because it was a first for all of us. For SBL, it was the first time podcasting from the road (in this case, the pre-draft party at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club). For TBJ's J.E. Skeets, a Toronto resident, it was the first time visiting a U.S. city other than Buffalo or Detroit (in this case, NYC).
The ensuing audio, photos and words were hopefully compelling in some sort of voyeuristic fan kind of way, and since we've been all over the place for the past week, both literally and figuratively, here's a one-stop shop for all that was fit to post.
Note: Skeets and Chris shot a ton of video at the party and draft, but we're still in the process of editing it down and posting it up. Stay tuned.
Pre-Draft Party at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club
I posted 14 pics of our Cognac room broadcast and the club in general. Schrages posted 150. We recorded interviews with C-Webb, Chris Paul, Gay and Carney. Chris did a good job writing a recap of what an unreal night this was, and you can hear for yourself by downloading the full episode of SBL we put together (mp3).
The main bar at 40/40 with SBL's logo rotating onto the big screen along with those of Toyota, the NBA and 2K Sports. In the foreground are many SBL groupies.
From left to right, my brother Chris, some other guy named Chris, me, the other guy named Chris' "brother" and CT in the Cognac Room.

Me, Schrages the Producer, Chris and CT on the red carpet after eight hours up in the club.
Draft Day Shenanigans in NYC
The day after the party was spent eating, prepping, waiting for taxis and shopping at the NBA Store.
Chris looks like a champ at breakfast. This is what happens when you stay up until 4am at some crappy Times Square bar and then get up at 8am to start working again.
Skeets looks up to Yao at the NBA Store. While we're here, a note on Skeets. He's a helluva guy. Really funny and kind and Canadian. If you're not familiar with his site, The Basketball Jones, check it. Great humorous NBA podcast and blog.
NBA Draft at MSG
Ah, yes, the main event. It was just us, the lottery picks, David Stern, ESPN's "experts" and hundreds of angry Knicks fans in the theatre. I posted some pics, and, of course, Schrages shared many, many more. For comic relief, Chris wrote a brief recap, as did our Canadian friend, and Skeets compiled a photo diary of the day that was.

The draft's No. 1 fan, two of the NBA's new leather balls and I.

This guy is not happy about New Jersey's selection of Marcus Williams. At all. Really, come back later this week for the video. He was SO angry and SO stereotypically Jersey about it Chris had the camera trained on him for five minutes straight.

Chris, Skeets and I leave MSG ready for some Guinness and vibrant discussion around the state of sports blogging and podcasting. And yes, Deadspin Will stood us up for his fiancée's book reading. The nerve on that guy.
Update: Yay Sports has already altered the Skeets-Yao photo.
