Here's a funny note from Dave Kindred's backpage Sporting News column on Joe Mauer, he of the .378 at-the-break batting average...

"Dates Miss USA 2005? Her name's Chelsea Cooley. If you saw her on David Letterman's show, you remember her. If not, Google her. You'll thank me."

The column includes much more than that, of course -- most notably a great anecdote about Mauer's grandfather comparing him to Ted Williams while Mauer was still in diapers -- but when a middle-aged sportswriter admits in a national publication to Googling player's girlfriends, that's the big takeaway, right? Not that I'm judging, it's just that, you know, I guess I can relate...

  NOW THAT IS A LOOKER. THAT FLING WON'T LAST. SHE'S TOO GOOOD LOOKING TO SETTLE DOWN RIGHT THIS MOMENT. CHICKS THESE DAYS ARE FAT ASSES THAT INSIST ON WEARING LOW-RISE PANTS W/ THEIR SLOPPY GUTS HANGING OUT OVER THE WAIST BANDS. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DAYS WHEN WOMEN GAVE A RAT'S ASS WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE. NOW IT'S JUST "I'LL HAVE 2 DOUBLE QTR POUNDERS W/ CHEESE AND A LARGE FRIES" AT 10 IN THE MORNING.
