Please, Continue to 'Get Metsmerized'
I'd be lying if I said I was rooting for St. Louis to beat the Mets in Game 7. Sure they've got great fans and Edmonds' flair and Pujols' power and Spezio's flaming chin fur, but the Mets had this freshness about them that the Cardinals have lacked for years as they annually make it to but not all the way through the gauntlet of October baseball.
It's with that I lament the Mets loss and Beltran's inability to pull the trigger by sharing this "rap" song by the '86 Mets, 'Get Metsmerized.' The track features everyone from Strawberry and Dr. K to Rafael Santana and Tim Teufel. I read about this recently in Jeff Pearlman's excellent book 'The Bad Guys Won', and it's wonderful to hear it in all of its awful brilliance. In case you're wondering, this was the brainchild of George Foster, who was on that team at the start of the season and wanted to capitalize on some 'Super Bowl Shuffle'-esque sales. I don't think it worked out so well.
Anyway, thanks to No Mas for digging it up and posting the album cover art, which is brilliant, and for even making a Get Metsmerized t-shirt. On top of all that, they go one step beyond and analyze Santana's flow, which may actually be reggaeton's humble beginnings. And if it's actual baseball you care about, here are some links to get you by...
