Hearing Rogue Wave

Jay-Z Could Teach Our Rookies Well

Note: This is normally where the embedded video player would appear, but some reason Grouper doesn't seem to work with AOL Journals. So go watch it here.

This 30-second spot of Jay-Z talking about what it's like dealing with initial fame and fortune is a spot for NBA on TNT but would work just as well as a PSA for anyone who's stepping into riches and recognition for the first time, namely NBA and NFL rookies.

It came to me via email, and I'd disregarded it at first rather than posting it but then came around due to the following:

1. True Hoop posted it, and I actually watched the video.

2. The marketing guy who sent the email knows what he was doing, which is almost never the case with marketers who email bloggers.

3. TNT does a fine job with their NBA broadcasts. In fact, they probably do a better job with their broadcasts than any network does with any sports broadcast.

4. Jay-Z provides the vocals for two of my favorite albums of the past 10 years; with the Roots on MTV Unplugged and with Danger Mouse on The Grey Album

5. I'm getting a free throwback jersey out of this, and I'm hoping it's the C-Webb Bullets joint.
