Hearing Cat Power

Happy V-Day From Marvin Gaye

I never thought of our national anthem as being particularly romantic. That is, until I heard Marvin Gaye sing it. Here's his rendition, via FanHouse, before the 1983 NBA All-Star Game at the Forum in Los Angeles, and it's just about the smoothest thing ever.

And if you're wondering about sports bloggers' true feelings on love and basketball (I mean, who isn't?), head over to Free Darko's V-Day Spectacular. I especially enjoyed Deadspin Will Leitch's contribution as the guy has had a hard row with the ladies but sure can write.

Update: Love's in the air over at FanHouse in the NFL (Bush & Ciara?) and NBA (Barkley and Bevetta?).

Hearing Marvin sing actually makes me want to attend a professional basketball game.  Thanks for the Valentine thrill.

If my memory serves me correctly, Gaye's head was blown off by his father like 5 weeks after that performance.

Best natty anth ever, by far... but watching it is like watching video of JFK waving to the crowd from his open limo.
