Hearing Iggy Pop -- 'I'm a Passenger'

DC's Sports Blogging Revolution Will Be Televised

Thanks in part to Gilbert Arenas, the acclaimed DC Sports Bog and blog-friendly team owners Ted Leonsis and Stan Kasten, it was suggested in FanHouse two weeks ago that our nation's capital is some sort of sports blogging mecca. Actually, I suggested it and meant it, because, in addition to the aforementioned, FanHouse, three-fifths of Kissing Suzy Kolber, Off Wing Opinion, Awful Announcing, Saved by the Blog, dozens of team blogs, Clinton Portis, etc. all call the District their spiritual home. Bog Man Dan Steinberg endorsed this sentiment on February 8 by going one step beyond ...
"If I ever got put on a television show of any kind, I would try to wrangle a weekly segment featuring local bloggers.
And wouldn't you know it, as of today, Comcast SportsNet is putting the Bog on TV, and me with it/him! And other bloggers with us! Oh, what a thinly veiled tease Agent Steinz can be!

Scene from the audition: me with great hair and Steinz with signature fedora.

Unbeknownst to most, broiling behind the scenes all this time has been a Comcast SportsNet-Washington Post partnership that will yield a weekday 5-6:30 p.m. sports show called Washington Post Live, and Dan will be prominently featured. He'll also be sharing the stage with yours truly once a week in a regular segment focusing on what DC-area bloggers are on about. That's right, Agent Bog-Mr. I-495 collabo!

And while I may be overly excited about this (note the exclamation points), there are a handful of reasons for that:
Steinberg is the best. It would be my great pleasure to be the Wilbon to his Kornheiser (or vice versa), even if those guys would probably rather us keep their names out of our filthy mouths.

I like being on TV. It's nerve-wracking and opens one's self up to ridicule, but it's something I've always been interested in and this is my first regular non-Cold Pizza gig since JMU campus TV. (Long live The Beat!)

Wardrobe by Mothering Hut. Given that Dan and I have no more than three suits between us, the real geniuses behind Wizznutzz will have us looking our machosensual finest at all times.

This is good for us blogger-types. Like I said last week about ESPN-True Hoop, moves like this (although I'm pretty sure this is the only move of its kind), bring the medium closer to mainstream.
So synchronize your RSS feeds and calculator watches as the WPL program begins March 19 and our little segment (BogHouse? Blogger Update? BlogCenter? BTI?) debuts March 23, meaning the fine folks at Comcast SportsNet have exactly 32 days to change their open minds.
